Flavia has more than 15 years' experience as a health journalist, writing for newspapers and specialist publications aimed at the public, patients, nurses and doctors.
Flavia is responsible for overseeing all the editorial content published daily on the Nursing Standard website and app, and its curation into our monthly print journal.
An award-winning journalist, she was twice a judge on the prestigious Women in the City awards (healthcare category) and enjoys meeting and networking with frontline NHS staff and health leaders. She would love to hear from you on any of the ways below.

Sarah Lydall
Head of audience engagement
Sarah joined Nursing Standard in 2002 as a news reporter. Since then she has held a variety of roles including news editor and deputy editor. In July 2018, Sarah was appointed head of audience engagement. She is in charge of the social media output for Nursing Standard and helps determine what nurses want to read most through the use of data.

Dr Richard Hatchett
Senior nurse editor, Nursing Standard
Richard is a registered nurse who specialised in intensive care and cardiac nursing and is now currently a visiting professor at the University of Surrey. He was one of a small group of nurses involved in setting up and opening, in 1998, the Heart Hospital, now University College Hospital at Westmoreland Street, London. He has had a long career in higher education as a principal lecturer before working as the deputy head of school at the Royal Marsden Hospital, London, and head of education and standards at the Nursing and Midwifery Council. He has published widely and edited two editions of Cardiac Nursing: A Comprehensive Guide, with David Thompson, and Nurse-led Clinics: Practice Issues. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing and a doctorate in social history. He recently qualified as a psychodynamic counsellor.

Tanya Fernandes

Tanya has worked in healthcare publishing for over 14 years, commissioning, editing and publishing high-quality clinical and educational content aimed at promoting lifelong learning, professional development, excellence in care and improved patient outcomes.

Anne-Claire worked as a sub editor and editor for a range of media outlets in France before moving to the UK in 2007, where she specialised in editing healthcare, medical and nursing content. Ruth Williams

Ruth worked as a registered general nurse until 1997 when she started working for Nursing Standard, first as an assistant clinical editor then as the opinion editor. She continued to work for RCNi journals and other publications as a freelance editor from 2003 until 2021, when she returned to RCNi as a permanent member of the evidence and practice team. She is committed to publishing high-quality clinical articles that nurses can use to support their practice and continuing professional development.

Stephanie has more than a decade’s experience as a health journalist, writing for newspapers and specialist publications. Clare Lomas
Career development editor
A former nurse, Clare joined Nursing Standard in 2011 as the opinion editor. After qualifying in 1998 she specialised in cardiac nursing and thrombosis research, and also has a degree in sociology and social psychology. Clare is responsible for the careers content of all RCNi journals and also heads up our student product, NS Student. Rachael Hannan
Digital operations manager
Rachael is digital operation manager at RCNi and currently works on a range of RCNi's digital products. She joined the company permanently in August 2016, having worked as freelancer for a short stint in 2010, then again in 2013-2016, so she has witnessed the digital side of the company grow exponentially into what it is today.
With over two decades of digital experience, she is a solution-orientated, creative content specialist with strong UX, analytics and project management skills, who keeps her eye firmly on the bigger picture in order to achieve strategic business goals.

Gurvinder Kaur Sondh
Digital Content Specialist
Gurvinder is a digital content specialist at RCNi. She joined RCNi in October 2018, with more than 10 years’ experience in digital marketing.
Gurvinder is responsible for scheduling evidence and practice articles online, ensuring a good flow of fresh content is available for the end-user. She also maintains and updates the nurse awards site, as well as the student section of the RCNi website.
Gurvinder previously worked for a health nutrition company. She enjoys playing table football and is an avid follower of the Indian national cricket team.
